You know ska. You know reggae. But do you know rocksteady? That's exactly the gap that 007 was built to fill — and Jazz Fest weekend at the Maple Leaf is the perfect place to get schooled.
Dreamed up by Jeffrey "the Houseman" Clemens, drummer for G. Love & Special Sauce, 007 is a love letter to a very specific and very cool slice of Jamaican music history: rocksteady, the mellow, bass-heavy bridge between ska and reggae that had its heyday right around 1966-1968. Think ska slowed down, stripped of the horns, and grooving deep. It's the sound that laid the groundwork for Bob Marley, and honestly, it just feels right in New Orleans.
