New Orleans' own Dirty South Afro-Beat Arkestra takes over the Maple Leaf. Gov't Majik has been hitting New Orleans stages for more than two decades, and the band's music is rooted in Afrobeat — the danceable style fusing West African rhythms with funk and jazz — while stretching into the beyond with psychedelic influences combined with soul and everything in between.
Led by bassist and co-founder Bru Bruser alongside keys co-founder Eduardo Tozzatto, Gov't Majik brings a deep roster of great New Orleans musicians to the stage — horns blazing, percussion locked in, and the groove running deep from the first downbeat to the last. Their music moves beyond its Fela Kuti roots, layering a New Orleans-style groove with a female chorus and powerhouse horn section that echo each other back and forth in the best possible way.
